Terms of Use
Effective date: September 14, 2026
Kitchenfolk helps people discover, save, cook, and share recipes. These Terms explain the rules for using the service and the permissions needed to make a recipe community work.
Kitchenfolk is operated by Brendan Paige. Questions about these Terms can be sent to hello@kitchenfolk.co.
1. Your account
By creating an account or submitting content, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not create an account or submit content.
You must be at least 13 to create an account. If you are below the age of majority where you live, you must have a parent or guardian’s permission to use the service, and they must agree to these Terms on your behalf.
Provide accurate account information, keep your credentials secure, and tell us if you suspect unauthorized access. You may not impersonate another person or use someone else’s account without permission.
Core recipe browsing, cooking, saving, and publishing are currently free. Any future paid service will have its price and applicable terms disclosed before you choose it.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information.
2. You own your contributions
You retain any ownership rights you have in the recipes, writing, photos, reviews, and other material you submit. Posting on Kitchenfolk does not transfer ownership to us.
Only submit content you own or have the rights or other legal authorization to use. You must have authority to grant the permissions in these Terms. Obtain any necessary permission from people identifiable in your photos, and do not disclose another person’s private information without authorization.
Give proper credit to sources and other cooks. Attribution does not replace permission where permission is required.
3. Permission for Kitchenfolk to use your content
You give Kitchenfolk a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, format, and display your content as reasonably necessary to provide the service and the features you choose. We may allow our service providers to do these things for us, solely to support those purposes.
For content you publish publicly, this includes showing it in search, Discover, creator profiles, recipe cards, cooking mode, and shared-link previews. We may also feature your public recipe, photo, or an excerpt on Kitchenfolk’s own social channels or newsletter to promote the recipe and Kitchenfolk. We will credit your displayed creator name and link to your recipe where the format permits.
We may resize or crop images and adjust formatting for display. This permission does not allow us to sell your content as a standalone product, license it to an unrelated brand for its advertising, or represent that you endorse a product without separate permission.
Private recipes and notes are licensed only to provide and support your private features, protect the service, and meet legal obligations. They are not licensed for public editorial use or promotion. How recipe photos follow a recipe’s visibility is explained in the Privacy Policy.
4. Saves and recipe versions
By publishing a recipe, you permit other people to read it and use it for personal cooking. You also give Kitchenfolk members a non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to save and adapt its recipe text through Kitchenfolk’s built-in features and publish their versions on Kitchenfolk with the original attribution preserved.
This permission applies only to rights you can grant. It does not include copying your photos into another person’s version or republishing your writing or photos outside Kitchenfolk. It does not restrict uses already permitted by law.
When you make a version, preserve the source attribution and use your own photos or photos you have separate permission to use. You retain rights in your original additions, subject to the rights in the underlying material.
5. Private imports
The import feature saves a recipe from an external website to your private recipe book. Imported recipes and versions made from them cannot be published on Kitchenfolk. Source attribution stays attached, and Kitchenfolk does not import the source website’s photos.
You are responsible for having a lawful basis to make and store a copy. A recipe being publicly accessible, an import succeeding, or a source being credited does not itself give permission to copy protected material. Do not bypass access restrictions or use importing to infringe another person’s rights.
Public recipes on Kitchenfolk should be original recipes you are first publishing here, including properly attributed versions permitted under these Terms. Do not manually copy another website’s protected text or photos to get around the import restrictions.
6. Reviews and community conduct
Cooking reviews should describe your actual experience making the recipe. Ratings and cooking claims are self-reported; Kitchenfolk does not independently verify every contribution. Each account may leave one editable rating per recipe, and creators may not rate their own recipes.
Do not:
- Post fake reviews, manipulate scores, or create accounts to inflate engagement.
- Post infringing, unlawful, threatening, harassing, discriminatory, or deceptive material.
- Publish someone else’s private information or impersonate them.
- Spam, conceal a material commercial relationship, or make misleading claims.
- Upload malicious files, bypass access controls, or interfere with the service.
If you have a relevant paid, gifted, employment, or other commercial relationship when recommending something, disclose it clearly. Posting a recipe does not automatically enroll you in a commission or payment program.
7. Moderation and account restrictions
Members can publish without advance editorial approval. Publication, a high score, or an editorial feature is not a guarantee that a recipe is accurate, safe, or suitable for you.
We may remove or limit access to content, restrict features, or suspend or terminate accounts for violations of these Terms, unlawful activity, or conduct that threatens the service or its users. We may act promptly where necessary to protect people, address infringement, or meet legal obligations.
Report concerns using the available reporting tools or hello@kitchenfolk.co. Include the relevant page link and a brief explanation. You may contact the same address to ask us to reconsider a moderation decision.
8. Removing content or leaving Kitchenfolk
You can use available controls to manage your content, delete your account from your profile settings, or contact hello@kitchenfolk.co to request removal. For personal information requests, contact hello@kitchenfolk.co.
When you remove a public recipe or make it private, our permission to make new public uses of that recipe ends. We will stop displaying the original publicly within a reasonable period after the change or a verified request, subject to any required legal retention. Its photos stop being viewable by others once the links already delivered to them expire, within 24 hours.
Versions that other members lawfully created through Kitchenfolk before you withdrew the original may remain on Kitchenfolk under the permission you granted in section 4. That permission continues only as needed to keep those existing versions available within the service. We will address requests to remove personal information from attribution separately under applicable law.
We cannot retrieve copies already downloaded by others or recall newsletters already delivered. We will stop new promotional uses after your removal request and remove existing promotional posts we control within a reasonable period where feasible. Limited retention for legal obligations or disputes does not authorize continued public promotion.
9. Copyright complaints
We respect creators’ rights and respond to notices of alleged copyright infringement. Send copyright complaints to:
Kitchenfolk copyright contactBrendan PaigeEmail: hello@kitchenfolk.coTelephone: 314-753-5005Include the following in your notice:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- Identification of the copyrighted work, or a representative list if the complaint covers multiple works at one site.
- Identification and location of the material you believe infringes, with enough information for us to find it. Include Kitchenfolk page or image links where available.
- Your contact information, including address, telephone number, and email address if available.
- A statement that you believe in good faith that the disputed use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement that the information is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are authorized to act for the owner of the allegedly infringed exclusive right.
We will act expeditiously on valid notices by removing or disabling access to the material and taking reasonable steps to notify the member concerned. We may request additional information needed to process a notice. We may share relevant notice information with the affected member.
If your content was removed by mistake
You may send a counter-notice to the copyright contact above. Include your signature; identification of the removed material and its former location; and a statement under penalty of perjury that you believe in good faith the removal resulted from mistake or misidentification.
Also include your name, address, and telephone number, and a statement consenting to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address. If you live outside the United States, consent to a federal district court in a district where Kitchenfolk may be found. State that you will accept service of process from the original complainant or their agent.
We will forward a valid counter-notice to the complainant. Under the applicable DMCA process, we will restore material within 10 to 14 business days after receiving a valid counter-notice unless our copyright contact receives notice that the complainant has filed an action seeking a court order restraining the alleged infringement. A separate, valid violation of our Terms may independently require the material to remain unavailable.
We have a policy of terminating accounts of repeat infringers in appropriate circumstances. Knowingly making material misrepresentations in a notice or counter-notice can create legal liability. Consider obtaining legal advice if you are unsure whether to submit one.
10. Cooking and external links
Recipes, dietary labels, timing estimates, serving adjustments, and member reviews are general information. Results depend on ingredients, equipment, substitutions, and technique. Use your judgment, follow appropriate food-safety practices, and check ingredients for your allergies and dietary needs. Kitchenfolk does not provide medical advice or guarantee that a recipe is allergen-free.
External websites and services have their own terms and policies. A link does not mean Kitchenfolk controls or guarantees the external content or service.
11. Service availability and responsibility
To the extent permitted by law, Kitchenfolk is provided as available, without warranties that it will always be uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for a particular purpose. We do not guarantee the accuracy or completeness of member content. Keep your own copies of recipes and photos that matter to you.
To the extent permitted by law, Kitchenfolk is not responsible for indirect or consequential losses, including lost profits, arising from use of the service. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for fraud or any protected consumer rights. Your legal rights under applicable law remain in place.
12. Changes and general terms
We may improve, change, or discontinue features. We will post updated Terms with a revised effective date and provide additional notice of material changes as appropriate. Where a change requires your agreement, we will obtain it before applying that change to you. We will not expand the license for your previously submitted content retroactively without your agreement.
If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply. A delay in enforcing a provision does not waive it. Provisions that need to continue after an account closes, including existing-version permissions, dispute-related retention, and applicable liability limits, survive only to the extent necessary for their stated purposes.
If you have a concern, contact hello@kitchenfolk.co. You retain any right to use courts, regulators, or other remedies available under applicable law.
